Credit Europe Bank N.V. a specialised niche player in international trade finance and retail banking has opened a Malta branch in Tower Road, Sliema.

Explaining why Credit Europe Bank chose to come to Malta, the country manager for the Malta branch, Zeyno de Vries-Davutoglu said: "We had already established business relations with Malta before our move here with locally-based customers in marine finance. It was eventually decided that we should open in Malta, based on the existence of this client base and also because of Malta's strategic location. We will be seeking to discover further possibilities in Malta, around the central Mediterranean region and beyond."

As well as its involvement within the local marine finance sector, Credit Europe Bank's Malta office is also operating on an international level in commodity and project finance and bank to bank loans.

Ms de Vries-Davutoglu added: "Whilst we are currently operating from Malta purely in the corporate sector, we will be offering retail banking products to the general public from January 2, 2008 with some very beneficial offers for customers not found elsewhere in any banks on the Maltese islands. Also, because we are a Dutch bank, Credit Europe Bank N.V. operates under the full banking licence supervised by the Dutch Central Bank, which means that our customers on the Maltese Islands will enjoy greater levels of protection for their savings."
