Last Saturday morning, Triq il-Kbira in St Julians was closed to traffic while a crane blocked the road as construction works were in progress on some private property.
Triq Mikelangelo Borg from Spinola Square leading to the Regional Road tunnels was closed to traffic as some trenching works across the road were in progress.
The only carriageway on Manuel Dimech Bridge being used to take traffic both ways was also closed to traffic as concrete was being cast on the section of the bridge under construction.
Needless to say, Triq il-Bahar l-Iswed has been closed to traffic since works commenced on Manuel Dimech Bridge, to allow contractors engaged on the repair works to store their building materials.
These roads were all closed to traffic on the same day, at the same time and without prior notice, leaving the residents of St Julians practically trapped with no way out.
A traffic policeman who was trying to do his best to control the traffic could not guide me out of St Julians, as he had just been sent there "without even knowing what is actually going on", as he himself stated. Repercussions of the situation could be seen as far as San Gwann.
Do the residents of St Julians have a local council, to prevent such shameful traffic arrangements, or don't they?
This is what one might call "traffic management at its best".
