The autumn touring season is expected to be a busy one this year for Malta Cricket with six sides earmarked to visit the islands. Already this week, cricket clubs Saracens and Clarendon will be here to play against Marsa and face each other in another warm-up match.
Malta Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers is providing the officials for all matches.
Four association members, namely, Wally Glynn, John Appleyard, Pierre Naudi and Phillip Gibbs, will be joined by five experienced umpires from the UK.
These are: Donald MacLeod, a Middlesex County League umpire besides umpiring for the MCC, the most prestigious club in the world, Steve Ross, who officiates in the Rutland and Cambridgeshire League, Mike Heritage, Deputy Training Officer for the South East Region of the ACU&S in England, David Rawlinson, who umpires in the Northumberland Premier League, and Simon Green, a South Wales League official.
After the touring season, the Malta Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers will be holding a weekend training course, between November 9 and 11, which will qualify successful participants to umpire on the international scene.
The course director will be Graham Cooper who is the European Umpires Consultant responsible for umpires training in Europe.
The association has reported a strong response for participation in this course.
