Malta would have been much better if Ms Child's government had in the past cared to look after it. Since we've been on our own, we have progressed a lot and I dare say that in just over 40 years we have made huge progress and many tourists are happy with Malta.

Whenever I have visited other countries I found negatives but I also found positives and as a rule I cared to observe the positives more.

Ms Child failed to mention that Malta is a very safe place in which to walk around which to me is as important as saving a few pounds on purchases.

I visited Sicily just a few weeks ago and many items are more expensive than we can buy them in Malta - no, I didn't complain and I didn't write to Italian papers with my moaning but simply didn't buy the more expensive items.

Ms Child got one thing right: Our sunshine is great, our sea is beautiful but I must remind her that most of the Maltese are also very beautiful and I hear such comments from English and other tourists I meet around the island.

I wish her bon voyage on her trips to Spain, Greece, Portugal, Turkey, Cyprus and historic Prague, New York or St Petersburg. Excuse me! Historic New York and St Petersburg? Is she comparing their history to ours?

Thanks for visiting us, Ms Child, and it was nice knowing you.
