It is strange that following his two latest columns, Lino Spiteri wants to indulge directly in the electoral debate with an illogical slant in favour of his once frustrator Alfred Sant.
While no one doubts Mr Spiteri's political leaning, it is quite strange that after all he has been through at the hands of Dr Sant as his rival for the leadership and then as finance minister, he is now seeing in the man an alternative leader for our nation. I am not a Labour sympathiser, however like Mr Spiteri, I am eager to know the truth and look for objectivity.
As I consider Mr Spiteri a logical person, I am finding it strange how Mr Spiteri either requests from the Labour Party, or at least provides an explanation himself, on why he tends to support the Labour Party led by Dr Sant.
It was Dr Sant, just four and a half years ago, who saw that Malta's adherence to the EU would bring about disaster. Such intrinsically wrong analysis needs to be addressed by the Labour Party, and particularly by its leader. How does Mr Spiteri really expect the electorate to trust Labour under Dr Sant simply because in his opinion the PN government seems spent?
The electorate needs to ponder and be told why a political leader like Dr Sant got all his sums so wrong, his analysis so incorrect. What makes Mr Spiteri believe that this man will make it now and will not get it all wrong as he did in many instances in the past?
