Energie Cottbus: Bundesliga club Energie Cottbus have appointed Slovene Bojan Prasnikar as coach to replace Petrik Sander, who was fired on Sunday. The club are in last place in the table with two points from seven matches and lost 5-0 to leaders Bayern Munich on Wednesday. The 54-year-old Prasnikar signed a contract through to the end of the 2008/09 season.

Anderson: Sunderland defender Russell Anderson, who joined the club from Aberdeen in the close-season, will be sidelined for three months following surgery on a damaged ankle. The club said that he had had the operation to repair ligaments damaged in the League Cup defeat at Luton Town a month ago.

Coly banned: Parma defender Ferdinand Coly received a three-match ban after TV footage showed he elbowed Torino's Cesare Natali in the face during his side's 2-0 home win on Wednesday, the Italian Soccer League said.

Celtic: Former British Home Secretary John Reid will become the new non-executive chairman of Celtic after the club announced that Brian Quinn is to retire. Reid, a lifelong Celtic fan, will join the board next month as independent non-executive director.

Forssell: Finland striker Mikael Forssell will miss his country's Euro 2008 qualifier against Belgium on Oct. 13 because of an abdominal hernia, the Finnish Football Association said. Forssell, who plays for Birmingham City, will undergo surgery next week.
