It seems that Candidus (Born and Bread, On the Dot, September 24) is still under the impression that there is a yearly, ongoing rivalry because of patron saints in some localities.

The bread and wine festivals are celebrations of the two top foods which the Qriema (and not Qormin) are well-known for, by the traditional wine bars, and over 40 bakeries in the city (and not village...).

From a cultural and religious point of view "bread and wine" are also the two edibles which Jesus Christ chose to transubstantiate (mystery of change to his body and blood) in the Cenacolo and Mass. I would have been much happier if Candidus was illuminated and compared Qormi with Bethlehem (house of bread in Hebrew). Maybe the local council should take note and do a twining with the city so Candidus would have many more bullets up his sleeve in comparing the rivalry to the Middle East conflict.

The organisation of the two-yearly events are with the help of the Qormi local council and both parishes so the dates were agreed upon by all sides. But Candidus does not seem to be happy that we Qriema can put on two festivals in one weekend.
