The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) is stepping up its efforts to increase the understanding of students about the importance of tourism and career opportunities the industry offers.

Creating a positive level of awareness among students was one of the reasons behind the tourism in-service programme for teachers, held once again by the Industry HR Development Unit within the MTA, in collaboration with the Department of Curriculum Management, Education Division, to complement the Choice Programme in secondary schools. Teachers from various schools attended the three-day programme. The course deals with the industry and its sectors; knowledge about emerging trends that require different professional and personal skills; and a clearer idea about the role teachers can play in guiding students towards this sector.

The MTA's Industry HR Development Unit, which is responsible for the development of human resources in the tourism industry, has at its principal aim the promotion of careers in secondary schools.
