Forensic scientist Anthony Abela Medici received the Gieh Had-Dingli award for voluntary work he carried out on the remains of St Gorg Preca.

The award was presented to Dr Abela Medici by Dingli mayor Ian Borg during a day of activities held by the local council to mark Jum Had-Dingli.

Mass was said in the morning, followed by a band parade to Gnien il-Haddiem by the Dingli Scouts Group and the Girl Guides.

Crafts, made by elderly people and by children attending Skola Sajf at the Dingli primary school, were exhibited at the day centre.

Joseph Mifsud, president of the Malta Football Association, inaugurated a mini-pitch with artificial turf at Gnien il-Haddiem, together with Ian Borg, the mayor. The Dingli Swallows club and nursery then held a five-a-side football tournament.

In the evening, the Dingli scouts band marched around the main streets of the village.
