In 1991, the Sega chairman, Hayao Nakayama, decided to develop a mascot that would do for his company what Mickey Mouse had done for Walt Disney: Most of the designers came up with hopping animals like kangaroos and rabbits. But Naoto Oshimo's stylised hedgehog was chosen and Sonic The Hedgehog was born. Yuji Naka and his computer-designing team created the first Sonic video game.

Two different cartoon series were soon on the air and Sonic The Hedgehog is now a star!

Hello Kitty is a twinkle-eyed cartoon kitten character invented by a Japanese company called Sanrio, in 1974, in London.

She still looks exactly the same today and is popular with little girls, from America to Japan, as a mascot on everything from bags to bath gel!

Hello Kitty and Sonic X are now with Happy Meals at McDonald's. You can collect four exclusive Hello Kitty back to school writing kits which are completely different from any other Hello Kitty programme and provide girls with great school items to make going back to school fun

The Sonic programme is four games that focus on speed. You can enter Sonic's world of adventures and the three key Sonic principles of speed, adventure and friendship.
