Malta and the Republic of Tajikistan yesterday established diplomatic relations with the purpose of promoting mutual understanding and strengthening friendship and co-operation.

A joint communiquè was signed in Moscow by Mario Costa, Ambassador of Malta to Russia, on behalf of the government, and Abdulmajid Dostiev, Ambassador of Tajikistan to Russia, on behalf of the government of Tajikistan.

The two sides agreed that non-resident ambassadors to each other's capitals would be accredited at some time in the future.
