A 44-year-old man was yesterday charged with the possession of cocaine with the intent to sell it.

Alfred Schembri, of Birkirkara, was arraigned in two separate cases. In the first case he pleaded not guilty to the possession of cocaine in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use and within 100 metres of a school or youth centre on September 21 and the previous two years.

In another case, Mr Schembri pleaded not guilty to the possession of a firearm and ammunition in the past months.

He was granted bail in both cases on the condition he does not leave his home without permission from the court. He was also bound by a Lm500 deposit and a personal guarantee of Lm500 for each of the two cases. Police Inspector Pierre Grech prosecuted.

Lawyers Ian Farrugia and Chris Cardona appeared for Mr Schembri.
