An MEP for Gozo

Happily agreement seems to have been reached between the major political parties to ensure that Gozo will remain a distinct electoral district.

It would be appropriate for this agreement to go even further and ensure that in elections for seats in the European Parliament, Gozo will be assured of one seat i.e. the Gozo electoral district would also be recognised as such in those elections.

Therefore, when Malta gains its sixth seat in the 2009 elections, Gozo would automatically elect its own MEP.

This would give more substance to the regional status of Gozo.
