BirdLife Malta will on Monday be offering a guided tour around L-Irdum Tal-Madonna at L-Ahrax tal-Mellieha where the EU Life Yelkouan Shearwater Project is based.

This project is the largest conservation task on the island and enjoys the collaboration of NGOs, government authorities and private companies.

Malta supports around 1,500 pairs of Yelkouan Shearwater, a staggering 10 per cent of the world's population. Around 500 pairs of this seabird breed inside burrows along the cliffs.

The tour will provide visitors with details about the birds' behaviour, such as how deep they dive, where they feed, and how they survive by drinking seawater.

The tour will last approximately an hour and will consist of a walk with occasional stops when the project will be explained in detail.

The tour will start at 4.30 p.m. from near the chapel of the Immaculate Conception at l-Ahrax.
