Caroline Camilleri, a student at Canon Paul Pullicino Rabat Secondary School, was yesterday presented with the second prize of an EU-wide poster competition on energy efficiency.
Ms Camilleri, who attended the award ceremony in the European Parliament in Brussels together with her teacher, Marlene Caruana, was presented with her prize by Polish MEP Adam Gierek who hosted the awards ceremony.
Ms Camilleri took part in the 12 And Under category in the FuturEnergia project - a joint initiative between PlasticsEurope, a network of associations representing the plastics industry, and European Schoolnet, a not-for-profit consortium of 28 ministries of education in Europe.
The project reached over two million students through an interactive website which included monthly live chats hosted by high-profile energy experts, an online European-wide poster competition and an interactive Energy Train Story.
Ms Camilleri also took part in a programme of activities and visits to Brussels organised by FuturEnergia for the winners.
The organisers said 2,400 posters were submitted from all over Europe featuring a wide array of energy themes, ranging from energy efficiency solutions to suggestions on how everybody can contribute to saving energy or use it in the most efficient way.
