Three of Malta's foremost musicians have embarked on a new creative project that will be launched on October 6 at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta, at 7.30 p.m. with repeat performances at 9 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. Entrance is free.

Renzo Spiteri (drums and percussion), Walter Vella (flutes and traditional reed instruments) and Mark Attard (piano & keyboards) will be presenting Trania Launch Concert as part of Notte Bianca Lejl Imdawwal 2007, an all-night cultural event presented by the Ministry for Tourism and Culture.

The eclectic musical background of the musicians, which ranges from contemporary musical and artistic expression to world music, jazz and an element of rock, has given Trania a very diverse and unique identity. As an innovative and creative trio, Trania will be performing music that has very strong influences from the Mediterranean basin and the African continent, while deriving inspiration from each of the musicians' musical experiences and giving space to improvisation.

Multi-percussion player Mr Spiteri works within a wide musical perspective using the universal language of music to bring different cultures together and collaborating with world-class artistes including Trilok Gurtu, Joji Hirota, N'faly Kouyaté and Mercan Dede. Following the launch of TRANIA, he will be travelling to the US for a three-week tour of his collaborative project "Intersections: The Art of Duo".

Jazz and fusion session musician Mr Vella plays saxophones, flutes and traditional reed instruments with his own inimitable and distinctive style. He has collaborated with Malta's top musicians and performed in a number of festivals across Europe including The Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland) and Paradise Jazz Festival (Cyprus).

Mr Attard's interest in crossing musical genres has led him to collaborate with jazz, rock and fusion musicians with equal commitment in bands like Fakawi, and jazz combos led by Dominic Galea and Sammy Murgo, amongst others.

Trania Launch Concert promises to be a truly captivating and dynamic performance that should not be missed. This event is being staged in collaboration with Musiconnect (Malta), an organisation that promotes and fosters local and cross-cultural music and artistic collaborations.
