This initiative is meant to raise awareness of the increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes associated with cardiometabolic risk factors often found along with abdominal obesity.
This initiative is supported by the International Diabetes Federation and the International Association For The Study Of Obesity.
Malta will mark its participation by organising a symposium on Change My Risk For A Healthy Heart. This will be organised in collaboration with the Department of Cardiology, the Department of Diabetes and the Health Promotion Department.
The speakers will be Albert Fenech, Head of the Department of Cardiology; Stephan Fava, Head of Department of Diabetes; Josanne Vassallo; Mario J. Cachia, and Mario Spiteri, Head of Health Promotion Department. All will be available for questions after the presentation.
The symposium will be held at Mater Dei Hospital (auditorium) at 10 a.m. on September 26 and is expected to last for about one to one-and-a-half hours.
The symposium will be opened by the Minister of Health and chaired by Prof. Albert Fenech.
