Concerts for hospices

The New Choral Singers, under the direction of Robert Calleja, will present a concert of sacred music at St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta on October 5 at 7.30 p.m.

This concert will form part of Voices For Hospices 2007, the international activity during which more than 500 concerts will be held simultaneously in over 60 countries to mark the World Hospice And Palliative Care Day.

The New Choral Singers will interpret compositions by Mozart, Viadana, and Tallis.

The highlight will, however, be the choir's rendition of the Missa Brevis Sancti Joannis De Deo by Josef Haydn.

The choir will be accompanied by the St James Consort chamber orchestra led by Sarah Spiteri and by John Aquilina on the organ.

Soprano Rosabelle Bianchi and bass Albert Buttigieg will give solo performances.

Entrance is free, but the audience will be invited to join the choir in their support of The Malta Hospice Movement.
