People are being encouraged to put on a pair of comfortable shoes and join forces in a walk in aid of Ghabex, the emergency shelter for women who are victims of domestic violence and their children.

The walkathon - from Manoel Island to the Love statue in Spinola Bay - will symbolise a walk towards a society devoid of domestic violence.

Organised by MTStyleClinic, which offers courses for women, the event, in collaboration with Agenzija Appogg, is meant to raise funds to improve the conditions at the shelter.

Those taking part in the walk are urged to donate Lm10 and in return, they will be getting water and a T-shirt to wear during the walk.

Ghabex is for those women and their children in need of emergency shelter on a temporary basis because of domestic violence.

It also provides professional support to those leaving abusive relationships by helping them deal with the effects of abuse.

The home also strives to increase the women's and children's awareness of the adverse effects of violence while helping them understand that abuse is neither acceptable nor justified.

More information about the event, which will be held on October 12, can be found on www.mtstyleclinic.com or by calling 2295 9000.

Donations can also be made to Women for Women HSBC Account 085 009652002.
