Like Frank Salt (Excellent Maltese Produce, September 6), I too have "discovered" La Valette Vin Blanc. It is a superb alternative to La Valette Vin Rouge (which I have been drinking for some years) when a white wine is called for.

La Valette Vin Blanc, at a little over a lira a bottle, is excellent value for a quality product. The "new" Black and Gold label of both wines enhances their appearance at a restaurant table giving it the look of a much more expensive wine. Even at the best eateries, it rarely costs more than Lm4 including mark-up and corkage.

Quality and affordability are its strengths. It also saves one from getting one's tongue twisted around Pinot Grigio or other indecipherable names when looking at page after page of a wine list.

For maximum enjoyment a chilled wine should be served in a stemmed glass to ensure that hand warmth does not increase the temperature of the wine and that only around two/three ounces of wine is served per glass at a time.

Again, like Mr Salt's letter, this is not an advert for Marsovin or La Valette, just my opinion that it is a pleasure to know that we, in Malta, can produce and market quality wine up there with the best of them.
