Tommaso Rocchi is considering his future at Lazio after his contract talks have stalled despite being a key figure in Delio Rossi's squad.

"The situation has become rather complicated," Rocchi said. "I have waited a long time and I will continue to wait and hopefully the club will come with a new offer, if not I will have to consider my options."

Rocchi has scored 16 Serie A goals last season and was a key figure in the Italian club's qualification to the Champions League this season.

The 30-year-old is increasingly frustrated at the meagre £450,000 a year wages given to him by the Biancocelesti. Monaco and Barcelona are reportedly interested in the forward.

Simoni writes off Juve's chances

Former Inter coach Gigi Simoni believes current Serie A leaders Juventus have "no chance" of winning the Scudetto this season.

"The word 'Scudetto' does not belong to Juventus this season," he told reporters. "The club has been very active on the transfer market, but the new arrivals do not guarantee the consistency needed to fight for the title.

"I would have only signed three top quality players to aim for some silverware right away. Instead, Juve bought too many figures that are of a good level, but certainly not on a par with Del Piero or Trezeguet."

Juve have won both their opening league fixtures and are the only team alongside Roma with a 100 per cent record so far.

Kaka pens new Milan contract

Milan midfielder Kaka has been awarded a new contract by European champions Milan to stave off the interest of Spanish club Real Madrid.

The Brazilian rejected a lucrative offer to move to the Bernabeu this summer and the Italian club will reward the player for his loyalty with a bumper deal.

The Corriere dello Sport claims that a new agreement has been drawn up to give Kaka £5.5m per season until 2011, although an extension to 2012 is on the cards.

Pagotto handed eight-year ban

Former Sampdoria, Milan and Italy goalkeeper Angelo Pagotto has been banned for eight years after testing positive for cocaine twice.

Pagotto had already been suspended for failing an anti-doping test for cocaine and resumed his career, but was caught out again after Crotone's match with Spezia on April 28.

As this was his second offence, the prosecutor had asked for a lifetime ban similar to the one handed to ex-Udinese midfielder Jonathan Bachini - but the FIGC opted for eight years.

Rooney to return against Sporting

Alex Ferguson confirmed that Wayne Rooney will play in Man. United's Champions League tie away to Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday.

The England forward was not risked against Everton yesterday and was not even on the bench as he completes his recovery from a broken foot.

"He will be fit for Wednesday, we have taken medical advice and he only started training on Monday," Ferguson said. "After only five days he is a bit short of fitness, he trained today and will train again tomorrow and through until Wednesday."

Spurs link with S. Africa side

Tottenham have announced a partnership with South African side SuperSport United in a link-up that will see both clubs' academies working together.

Some youngsters will travel to London from the Pretoria-based club to train with Spurs, and sporting director Damien Comolli is optimistic about eventually getting players from the scheme in the South Africa team.

"It is a mutually beneficial partnership that will see both our academies gain from the association," he said.

"We will aim to bring over one or two players a year to train with our homegrown talent. In a few years' time, the majority of players in the South African squad will have come from the SuperSport Academy."

Pressley ruled out for eight weeks

Celtic defender Stephen Pressley is likely to miss the majority of his club's UEFA Champions League group stage campaign after being ruled out for up to eight weeks following back surgery.

The news is a big blow for the Glasgow outfit who get Group D under way on Tuesday at Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 33-year-old centre-back, who helped Celtic to the Scottish double after joining from Hearts in January, has yet to feature this season due to injury and finally decided to have the operation that he had been delaying.

Voronin's Ukraine future in doubt

Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin may have played his last game under Ukraine coach Oleg Blokhin after their midweek spat.

Blokhin made Voronin a scapegoat for the 2-1 defeat by Italy in Wednesday's Euro 2008 Group B qualifier, blaming the striker for the winning goal by the world champions in the 77th minute.

"Our relationship has been strained since he became coach," Voronin said. "It seems he respects only himself and Shevchenko. I don't think he will call me up for the national team any more, at least not during this campaign."

Whitehead set for early return

Sunderland manager Roy Keane has been boosted by the news that Dean Whitehead could make a return as early as mid-November.

Whitehead damaged the anterior cruciate ligaments in his knee in training last month and was expected to be out for at least six months, but Black Cats physio Pete Friar has revealed that the 25-year-old could be back in action within six weeks.
