The Transport Authority yesterday issued a list of correspondence going back three years in reaction to comments by Zejtun council, which said it had been requesting the ADT to take action on safety in a road where a pedestrian was killed on Friday.
The list shows that the council, as far back as May 2004, submitted a request for a pelican crossing at the corner with Triq Hal Bajada, and in August the council made a request for speed calming measures.
The authority said that, although the council made various requests for pelican crossings and traffic calming measures, the council repeatedly did not provide feedback/information requested and the requests could not be concluded.
Furthermore, during the preparation of designs for cycle lanes in the south of Malta, the traffic unit had considered the installation of a cycle lane running from Bir id-Deheb roundabout to Marsascala.
The cycle lane design would also have included the redesign of the road space of Triq Buttigieg. However, the council had objected to this project.
