It may not sound like much but by simply leaving your old Yellow Pages on your doorstep on a specified date, you could help to significantly reduce the volume of household waste produced each year.

Since the inception of the Yellow Pages recovery programme in 1999, some 350 tonnes of waste paper have been diverted to foreign recycling plants. Last year alone, thanks to the general public's help, a surplus of over 80,000 outdated copies were recovered from Maltese households - copies which would otherwise have found their way onto Malta's increasingly overburdened landfills, with results that are now visible from all over the island.

In some towns, the recovery rate reached as much as 42 per cent: four out of 10 citizens participated in this purely voluntary recycling programme. So how to get more people to participate this year?

In the coming weeks, over 200,000 copies of the new edition will be distributed to homes, businesses and hotels in Malta and Gozo. Delivery starts tomorrow and ends on September 28.

Each household will be informed in advance of the exact date of delivery. In some areas, pre-notification may have already been received.

Once again, people are invited to leave their old copies on their doorsteps or by their letterboxes on the date specified. Like the delivery, the recovery of outdated copies of the Yellow Pages is free of charge.

This year, Yellow Pages hopes to increase the number of volumes collected to 100,000. All those who wish to place a reminder of the collection and delivery date on their phone should visit www.yellowpages.com.mt to find detailed information on the distribution dates for their hometown.

The Yellow Pages is the country's most successful business directory, featuring over 42,000 business listings. Numerous market surveys have shown that it is the leading choice for sourcing products and services on the local market.

YPL is also the only publishing firm that audits its circulation and collection figures and has procedures in place whereby PriceWaterhouse Coopers certifies the numbers on completion of the distribution. Yellow Pages (Malta) is also an ISO accredited company.

In conjunction with the euro changeover next January, Yellow Pages (Malta) is providing a euro converter card with every copy of the Yellow Pages.
