In the latest instalment of his fortnightly column My Agenda, which appeared yesterday, Norman Hamilton wrongly referred to Cardinal Montini serving as Pope John Paul I. In fact, it was Cardinal Luciani not Cardinal Montini who became Pope John Paul I.

In the latest instalment of his fortnightly column My Agenda, which appeared yesterday, Norman Hamilton wrongly referred to Cardinal Montini serving as Pope John Paul I. In fact, it was Cardinal Luciani not Cardinal Montini who became Pope John Paul I. He also referred to the "infamous American Cardinal Marcinkus". Mgr Marcinkus was Archbishop not cardinal.

The errors are regretted.
