A group of 29 illegal immigrants was rescued by a Frontex seacraft some 110 nautical miles south of Malta yesterday evening when the small boat they were in began to sink in Libyan waters.

The immigrants, who included five women, were due to be brought in at Haywharf on board the Armed Forces of Malta patrol boat P52 early this morning.
