Mepa schedules St George's Barracks, St Julians
This part of St George's Barracks consisted of two identical blocks built in a style typical of British colonial military architecture in the Maltese islands, and originally served as a barracks of the Royal Engineers. During the past decades the buildings were joined together by a modern structure. In the centre on top of each block is a British monarchic insignia in high relief.
One of the blocks was scheduled as a Grade 2 building in 1994 as per Government Notice Number 755/95 published on December 5, 1994. The other identical block was for some reason of oversight or plotting error not included with the scheduling of Pembroke military complex in 1994. It is being proposed that this yet unscheduled block be afforded the same protection as its twin block due to its architectural, historical and contextual value, as well as to afford protection of this complex in a holistic manner.
