Traffic in Xlendi

Can someone please tell me why the "No Entry" sign at the bottom of the Victoria road near C Severn and Village Inn are totally ignored? I am a regular visitor to this area and it's so nice to sit and watch the children playing a game or riding their bicycles generally having fun, because no traffic should be passing.

But cars ignore the signs, drive through the children, sometimes just to turn the vehicle round; meanwhile policemen ignore these actions, which I find amazing.

Why can't the area be made into a pedestrian-only zone, or at least after a certain time the road be blocked off to traffic by means of some sort of road block to physically stop the cars driving down?

This is already done in Marsalforn.

A restaurant owner who has complained to the authorities countless times said: "Nothing will be done until something tragic happens." I am sure it will unless some action is taken in the busy summer months to avoid the possibility.
