The purpose of this letter is to fiercely condemn the driver of a public bus.
On Tuesday I was waiting at Msida at 12.30 p.m. when the bus stopped by. Before allowing anyone to get on, the driver stood up shouting at passengers to move back while the people at the bus stop formed a queue. They then started boarding.
As I got up, the driver waved his hand in a motion that meant the bus was full. Yet, just as I turned my back, two girls seemed impressed at the driver having invited them to board, even though they were at the back of the queue.
If I, as a Maltese citizen, was given this unfair treatment, I dread to wonder what a tourist will be treated like in the same situation.
It is sometimes a joy to sit in the front seats and watch bus drivers put in every effort to communicate with tourists. Yet occasionally, I have come across the narrow minded who have gone as far as insulting tourists in their own language.
These people do not seem to recognise that tourists influence their reference groups about us, and thus should be kept satisfied.
Besides, if the driver is so desperate for some attention, he should better hit the gym!
