The Malta Amateur Wrestling Federation (MAWF) has again been invited to take part in the Grand Prix of Sicily.
In past editions, Maltese wrestlers obtained a good number of positive results, notwithstanding strong opposition from Romanian, Italian, Hungarian and Polish competitors. The Maltese contingent for this year's tournament, to be held in Palermo next Saturday, is made up of three officials and nine wrestlers.
For the past few months, the Maltese wrestlers have been following a rigorous training regime under the guidance of national coach Jesmond Giordimaina. The team includes wrestlers who already have international experience as well as others who will be making their debut abroad.
Manuel Cilia, the MAWF assistant general secretary, will head the Maltese contingent with the other two officials being national coach Giordimaina and international referee Pawlu Farrugia.
Seasoned wrestler Abraham Vassallo will lead the Malta team which also consists of Adam Vella, Aidan Buhagiar, Andrea Saliba, David Zammit, Matthew Bonnici, Jonathan Gatt, Duncan Farrugia and Garry Giordimaina.
