Former WBC world heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has been forced to cancel his comeback fight against the American Jameel McCline because of injury, organisers have announced.

The 36-year-old Ukrainian had been due to return to the ring on September 22 in Munich, two years after his retirement. Klitschko suffered a back injury in training and had surgery on Saturday night. It will be four to six weeks before he can resume training.

Klitschko's younger brother Vladimir retained his IBF world heavyweight title when he beat Lamon Brewster in Cologne in July.
