John Meilak (September 10) decisively states that code-switching is "hilarious" and borderline "ridiculous", claiming that it only makes people look insecure. He tries to validate his claim by stating that he has never heard Italians, Japanese or French code-switch.

He fails to mention, however, that these people are monolingual, unlike us Maltese. Code-switching is in fact extremely common in other bilingual countries such as Canada, Singapore, India and Morocco.
