England midfielders Frank Lampard and Owen Hargreaves have been ruled out of tomorrow's Euro 2008 qualifier against Russia, an FA spokesman said yesterday.

It will be the second time in five days that they have been sidelined after also missing the first of England's double-header home games against Israel at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Lampard was not expected to make the team after tearing his thigh muscle in training with Chelsea last month but Manchester United midfielder Hargreaves, who injured his thigh in training on Wednesday, was hopeful of playing but was ruled out after an examination by the England medical staff.

Both players have left the squad and returned to their respective clubs for further treatment.

Gareth Barry is expected to keep his place against Russia after an impressive display against Israel.

Earlier Steven Gerrard confirmed he was fully match fit and ready to play despite nursing a broken toe. He took part in a full training session yesterday and reported no reaction to the injury.
