Sergei Bubka, the newly-elected IAAF vice-president, has accepted an invitation to represent IAAF president Lamine Diack at the European Athletics Conference in Malta between October 11 and 14.

Ukrainian Bubka was elected IAAF vice-president during the congress held in Osaka, Japan last month, garnering the highest number of votes in the process.

The other IAAF vice-presidents elected last month are Sebastian Coe (Britain), Robert Hersh (USA) and Dahlan Al-Hamad (Qatar).

Although Bubka is more renowned for his illustrious career as a pole vaulter, the 1988 Seoul Olympics gold medallist is very active in various IAAF and IOC committees. He is a Member of Parliament of Ukraine and has been president of the National Olympic Committee since 2005. He was elected president of the IOC Athletes' Commission in 2002.
