The Graffitti movement has voiced its opposition to the total privatisation of Maltapost, saying that this could result in an erosion of workers' rights, a private monopoly and an inferior postal service with less social responsibility.
"Even though postal services in the European Union should be liberalised within the coming years, this does not mean that the government should necessarily sell all its shares," it said.
"The government is now trying to be more neo- liberal than many governments elsewhere, as it shall not even retain its shares in Maltapost. Effectively profit maximisation will be more important than any sense of social responsibility".
