Foreign Minister Michael Frendo has presented a cheque to Captain Reuben Lanfranco, Commodore of the St John Rescue Corps, to cover part of the expenses this voluntary organisation incurred in sending nine of its officers for an intensive week of training with the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service in the UK.
Dr Frendo congratulated the nine officers for their achievement and encouraged more people to join such organisations. The UK visit provided members of the corps with the chance to train alongside members of the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and learn new skills particularly those related to fire fighting and urban search and rescue.
The Foreign Ministry has also supported the corps by contributing part of the travel expenses as part of its Overseas Development Policy. The corps is training some of its members for overseas deployment in which it may be requested to participate on the invitation of another state.
