Last month 89.7 Bay visited St Joseph's Home, St Venera, to officially hand over the van that was purchased by using the funds raised by Bay Kids.

Last year, a string of Bay Kids events and incentives was introduced by 89.7 Bay, including the 2006 BMA's compilation CD featuring the exclusive Bay Kids song It'll Be Alright, having all profits on CD sales going to the home, and "you pay... we play" on 89.7 Bay, where listeners donated cash in return of a song requested.

Then, Bay's March Madness took all Bay DJs to Axis for a night and KU Club in Gozo on the next night - both massive parties, generating more funds for Bay Kids. Following this, a special screening of Mr Bean's Holiday was held in April at the Eden cinemas and all funds collected also went to St Joseph's Home.

Earlier in the year, Fr Frankie of the home was quoted as saying: "When at St Joseph's home we heard that we are the first recipients of Bay Kids initiative we were truly thrilled. We realised we are becoming part of a very new and original initiative of raising funds for people in need.

"89.7 Bay is helping us by giving us the dignity without the feeling of pity and by having young people enjoy themselves. At the home we have very different needs. My wish was to have one of our old vans replaced, which has been with us for some 20 years, and is in dire need of being replaced."

The events and initiatives raised enough funds to make Fr Frank's dream a reality. While presenting the brand new Fiat Doblo, Terry Farrugia, station manager for 89.7 Bay, said: "We are overjoyed at the success of Bay Kids.

"This has by far been the most rewarding experience, seeing all our efforts finally resulting in making people's dreams come true."
