The case involving a police sergeant found guilty of hitting a French woman and jailed for four months made me wonder whether we have lost all sense of reasonable justice.
Although his action was wrongful, there are very important circumstances to consider. The sergeant's frustration was brought about by the woman's behaviour during the incident (which could also be seen clearly on the video). The officer's true and proper intentions were solely to restore order. He obviously never meant to harm her at all.
All the good deeds and risks taken both when he was off duty and during his 20 years of impeccable service seem to have been forgotten.
The sentence pronounced for that split-second action, caused by very strong provocation, will also carry other very drastic consequences. Was genuine justice done with this honest police sergeant and his family?
