Motorist demands his driving licence back

A man has filed a judicial protest against the Malta Transport Authority claiming it was jeopardising his job by asking him to return his driving licence.

In the protest, Clint Buttigieg explained that he had been given his driving licence after he passed the driving test but did not sit for a theory examination. He had abided by what was told to him by an ADT employee who was later found to have abused his position. Mr Buttigieg was then asked to sit for his theory test, which he passed. This, he said, meant he was fully qualified to hold a licence.

However, the ADT had asked him to return his licence. He suggested that he sit for the complete exam again because his work entailed driving.

However, the ADT was not allowing this and this was abusive, Mr Buttigieg said, adding that there was the risk that he would lose his job. He held the ADT liable in damages.

Lawyer José Herrera signed the protest.
