Why does the bank still impose charges to exchange the euro?
That is because the euro is still a foreign currency, just like other currencies such as the sterling, the US dollar or the yen. As from July 1, however, the Banks have agreed not to impose charges for deposits of euro notes into Maltese lira and euro accounts. Exchange of Maltese lira into euro will keep attracting charges till the end of December.
