Who was Alice In Wonderland?

Alice Liddell, who was born on May 4, 1852, was the original Alice of both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking-Glass. She was the middle of three daughters of Dr Henry Liddell, former head of Westminster School, in England and a distant relative of Queen Elizabeth II of England, as her great-grandfather was brother of the ninth Earl of Strathmore, from whom Elizabeth II is directly descended.

One day in July 1862, Oxford mathematics lecturer, the Rev Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, now known as Lewis Carroll, took three little girls, Alice and her two sisters, on a boating trip. To keep them amused he told them a delightful tale involving Alice and a white rabbit.

That Christmas the story was presented to Alice as gift and reminder of that happy day. The story was later published as Alice's Adventures In Wonderland, with illustrations by Sir John Tenniel. The original version was illustrated by Lewis Carroll.
