Mario Schembri Wismayer describes Maltese as a "museum-piece code". And yet, come next October, scholars from Europe, the United States and the Far East will be convening at the University of Bremen, in response to a call by the University's Institute for General and Applied Linguistics, to set up an International Association for Maltese Linguistics. Such is the interest of scholars in a language whose linguistic features are among the most interesting and vibrant in the world!

What is actually pitiful is that there are a few clog-headed Maltese who denigrate the only element that gives us an identity of our own.
