I am proud that I have learnt and am speaking our mother and national language Maltese, which Mario Schembri Wismayer calls "dear old scullery language". Incidentally the same words "ilsien tal-kcina" was heard more than 60 years ago.

If Mr Schembri Wismayer has a right and duty to speak English no one should stop him; but he must respect all the others who have a right to speak and a duty to their nation to speak Maltese.

No, no Mr Schembri Wismayer, if the standard of English is falling, the solution is not the clipping of the Maltese language as you suggest, but the improvement of the teaching of English. If you have a headache, you don't just cut off your head, you take the necessary medicine.

One parting shot: Is Mr Schembri Wismayer Maltese and did he attend a Maltese-speaking school?

As a Maltese citizen he should know and appreciate that his national language is Maltese; if he wants to speak English or for that matter the language of Patagonia, it is his problem.
