Maltese double trap shooter William Chetcuti took part in a World Championship shoot in Nicosia, Cyprus yesterday.

A poor performance in the opening round severely undermined Chetcuti's hopes of making the cut to the final barrage as the Maltese shooter only managed 37 clays from 50.

The GSSE gold medallist did better in the second and third rounds when he compiled identical scores of 46 for a total of 129 points from 150. He finished 52nd from 63 shooters.

The six shooters who qualified for the final barrage were Daniele Di Spigno (Italy) 145, Francesco D'Aniello (Italy) 143, Joshua Richmond (US) 143, Binyuan Hu (China) 143, Claudio Franzoni (Italy) 142 and Steven Scott (Britain) 141.

The gold medal went to Italy's D'Aniello who topped the leaderboard with 191 ahead of China's Hu (190) and US's Richmond (189).
