On the Dot...
Mark Two
On Wednesday, August 22 at 6.40 p.m., a traffic accident blocked Birkirkara Road, San Gwann. A police car with two uniformed police constables in it appeared, presumably to manage the situation. Yet, they must have had more pressing business to attend. They reversed, made a u-turn and disappeared, apparently not even noticing the cars double-parked on the road, or those at corners or on yellow lines.
Bad News
Does anybody in the Establishment feel duty-bound to at least explain to the public what stage have the inquiries into the fatal police shooting in Qormi reached? Enough time has passed for both the internal police inquiry and the magisterial inquiry to be concluded and their findings published.
Sell-By Dates
The bottleneck situation at the Valletta Monti is getting harder to bear, day-by-day, for the hawkers, the shoppers, the pedestrians, and the owners of the shops and residences in that neck of the woods. Moreover, dismantling the stalls takes forever, and vans have to wait in line in order to be able to move. Why is this happening?
Faster Food
A particular kiosk in Marsascala, appears to be very negligent in changing the oil used for frying different foods, particularly hamburgers. This is creating a nauseating stench all over the place. Besides, no VAT receipts are being issued. A routine inspection, carried out on any day from 8 p.m. should prove rewarding.
Cover Versions
For nearly a month, two marquee tents have been set up on the concrete quay close to a popular restaurant and wine bar in Ghadira. One is probably a kitchen and living area, complete with gas cooker and the other is probably used as sleeping quarters. One wonders what sanitary disposal methods are being used by these temporary residents. Another glaring eyesore is the two dilapidated and filthy bus shelters close to area in question.
Night Light
At long last, the St Paul's Bay Bypass is once again open. There is an open water gutter, which will end up full of silt and rubbish with the first rainfall, and an unfinished part at the Xemxija end. There is also a stretch of road that is all lit up, to no purpose at night, with at least 100 double bulb poles, which together with those of the Zebbug/Mdina bypass are left on during the night.
Garden Parties
Why is there such ado about using the Upper Barrakka gardens to host private functions, rather as if there were no others extant in Valletta? There was a time when the smaller, prettier, Lower Barrakka gardens were utilised and, throughout all this, Hastings Gardens remain crying out for attention, save for the occasional pre-electoral fenkata.
