A total of Lm63,000 (€146,751) were invested in the restoration and rehabilitation works on the San Girgor church in Zejtun, the Minister for Resources and Infrastructure, Ninu Zammit, said when visiting the works.

Mr Zammit said the general condition of the church, that includes 11 fronts, has been rather good. However, localised defects were identified on the fronts and, therefore, works were carried out to repair them in order to avoid the damage getting worse. The works included the replacement of the crumbling stone, the clean up of the front, the removal of the cement cover on the lower parts of the fronts and the pointing to avoid water seepage that causes damage to the stone and the structure of the building.

Apart from restoration works, part of the church parvis was also re-laid, two wooden benches and rubbish bins were added and a new lighting system was installed.
