If Bernard McCarthy wants the readers to see Tony Blair's true colours (August 19), he must refer to Amitai Etzioni's book The Spirit Of Community Rights, Responsibilities And The Communitarian Agenda.

At the back of the book (Fontana Press 1995), Mr Blair is quoted by Melanie Bell, in the Times literary supplement, saying: "What we share, it means working together".

This fits too for the Maltese people, who have sacrificed themselves to join the EU and, next year, the eurozone. We are now reaping the harvest, as we are attracting investments from abroad, such as SmartCity.

My forefathers died for the cause of freedom and we Maltese people are proud that we have fought side by side by the British soldiers in WWII. Does Mr McCarthy not remember that we are called the George Cross Island? I suggest he reads Britain And Malta - The Story Of An Era by Joseph Attard (Publishers Enterprises Group (PEG) Ltd, 1988).

"What we share, it means working together." That is why I have suggested that Mr Blair should be chosen as Europe Foreign Minister so that Britain will be closer to Europe than the US and to enter the eurozone.

"What we share, it means working together." Will Mr McCarthy vote yes to join the eurozone?

It is not ethical to enter in the internal affairs of other countries and all the countries of the world have the same social problems that Mr McCarthy has mentioned. But Mr McCarthy forgets to mention Mr Blair's success both on the question of Northern Ireland and as Middle East envoy "... the evil that men do lives after them; the good is often interred with their bones".

I also suggest Mr McCarthy reads The Third Way by Anthony Giddens on Mr Blair's abilities or, rather as he suggests, "Blair's true colours".
