A FIFA fact-finding team gave little away on Friday after completing a nine-day look at Brazil's plans to host the 2014 World Cup.

Brazilian officials, whose country is the only one bidding to stage the tournament, were optimistic about being awarded the event when world soccer's governing body makes its decision on October 30.

Hugo Salcedo, spokesman for the five FIFA officials, told a news conference at the Maracana Stadium that his team were impressed by the professionalism of the bid.

"We were witnesses of the great spirit, determination and pride which is Brazil," said Salcedo, whose team also visited Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre during their trip.

The FIFA officials, however, declined to take questions.

"They will take home an impression of a modern Brazil which is capable of staging the World Cup," said Brazilian Football Confederation president Ricardo Teixeira.

"If we are awarded the World Cup we will have seven years ahead of us. But FIFA has demonstrated that if we fail to implement any of the required measures we could lose the tournament."

South America is due to stage the event under FIFA's rotation system and the federations of the other nine countries have backed Brazil as the continent's sole candidate.

FIFA, though, has warned it could look for an alternative if the Brazilian bid is not considered up to scratch.

Brazilians are divided over hosting the tournament. Many believe the country, plagued by poverty, unemployment and social problems, has other priorities.

Critics also wonder whether the country can bring its dilapidated stadiums and creaking transport infrastructure up to standard.

Brazil previously hosted the 1950 World Cup won by Uruguay.
