Arsenal to face Newcastle, United host Coventry

Arsenal will host Newcastle United in the outstanding League Cup third-round tie after the draw was made yesterday.

It was one of five all-Premier League matches to come out of the hat with Blackburn also hosting Birmingham, Tottenham at home to Middlesbrough, Reading entertaining Liverpool and Fulham at home to Bolton.

Michael Mifsud's Coventry City were handed a glamorous tie when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Holders Chelsea, who beat Arsenal in the 2007 final, travel to second division Hull City.

The third-round ties will take place in the week starting September 24.

The draw:

Blackburn Rovers vs Birmingham City; Reading vs Liverpool; Man-chester United vs Coventry City; Tottenham Hotspur vs Middlesbrough; Hull City vs Chelsea; Blackpool vs Southend; West Ham vs Plymouth; Arsenal vs Newcastle; Luton vs Charlton;

Manchester City vs Norwich City; Sheffield United vs Morecambe; Sheffield Wednesday vs Everton; Fulham vs Bolton Wanderers; Burnley vs Portsmouth; Aston Villa vs Nottm Forest/Leicester; West Brom vs Cardiff.
