Malta will be hosting the 2010 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup. On Friday, the Malta Shooting Sport Federation (MSSF) had high-level talks with the world governing body officials who gave their green light for the competitions to be staged at the Bidnija ranges in three years' time.
In a statement, the MSSF said federation president Saviour Portelli met ISSF head Horste Schrieber in Nicosia two days ago and convinced him that the Maltese federation will have the required infrastructure in place to cater for the World Cup which sees the participation of hundreds of shooters who will be here along with federation delegations and guests.
Also vying to host the 2010 World Cup was the federation from the United Kingdom who also presented a strong bid to organise the event.
The MSSF said the next step for the shooting organisation was to see that its project at Bidnija will be carried out in time for the World Cup.
The new facilities will be of a high quality and international standard. Besides hosting the World Cup, the new ranges will also cater for Nordic shooters' training camps, making Bidnija an ideal destination for winter training and another key sport tourism source for the country.
