With Sterling Diamonds fast becoming the fine jewellery and watch making trend-setter for discerning customers, the Sterling Group directors have already laid their plans for their perennial November Sterling Jewellers' Exhibition, traditionally held at the Hotel Phoenicia.

Alongside the diamonds collections, elite brands and elegant fashion timepieces, Sterling Diamonds will this year proudly present the Bulgari 2007/8 collection, as the official retailer for Bulgari in the Valletta's Republic Street.

Sterling Diamonds has named soprano Lydia Caruana as ambassador for the 2007/08 season.

Last August Ms Caruana performed an operatic concert with the Berwald Symphony Orchestra of Stockholm, directed by Manfred Honeck, together with Operalia 2007 prize-winner, tenor Dymtro Popov. In June, she sang several operatic arias in a concert by the great tenor José Carreras. Only a few weeks earlier she partnered Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja in a much-acclaimed concert for the Rathauskonzerte Series 2007, in Regensburg, Germany.

In December 2006 Lydia joined Andrea Bocelli in concert. Besides singing at the celebrated Accademia Di Bologna with the Musici dell' Accademia, in February Lydia inaugurated the 2006/2007 season of the Manoel Theatre with a gala concert of Puccini and Verdi under the baton of Martin Kerschbaum.

In November 2006 she sang in the International Opera Gala series in Ireland, performing with tenor Mario Malagnini and baritone Marzio Giossi at the National Concert Hall in Dublin and at the City Hall in Cork. During 2006 Lydia Caruana also performed at the Manoel with Paul Gulda, at the Auberge d'Aragon for a Europa Nostra Congress and participated in the Malta Sacred Music Festival in June 2006 in the Grand Finale Concert under the baton of Martin Kerschbaum.

Lydia Caruana launched her first CD with celebrity pianist Paul Gulda, on the Gramola label. The CD, which is a compilation of songs by Rossini, Bellini, Ravel, De Falla and Camilleri, was launched in Vienna in May 2006 during a recital and presentation at the Bösendorfer Saal. Lydia studies with the Maltese soprano Antoinette Miggiani and has attended master classes in Vienna with Sona Ghazarian.

Lydia's engagements for the forthcoming season include performances in Vienna, Graz and Innsbruck, Prague, Copenhagen and Oslo.

She has just been voted Baileys Woman of the Year.
